Pressbooks Results

Pressbooks allows you to embed interactive activities throughout your book, using a simple tool called H5P. With Pressbooks Results, students’ scores on gradable H5P activities automatically record in the learning management system (LMS) gradebook. This helps educators and institutions better understand student engagement and performance.

Pressbooks Results in General Release

After a successful pilot that concluded in December 2024, Pressbooks Results became available for general release starting in January 2025. During the first term of general release, Pressbooks Results was used by:

    • 30+ institutions
    • 75+ instructors
    • 140+ courses
    • 3,700+ students

We’re excited by this early momentum and encouraged by the feedback we’ve received so far. Instructors and administrators have told us that Pressbooks Results is helping them gain clearer insight into student learning activity, identify where learners may be struggling, and provide more targeted feedback. We’re continuing to conduct user interviews and gather input to guide future improvements.

Major Improvements: January–March 2025

🧠 Open-Ended Response Support

Pressbooks Results now captures and displays open-ended response data from H5P Essay and Fill in the Blanks activities. Both instructors and students can view these responses directly in the Chapter Results Viewer.

This enhancement makes it easier to assess student reasoning and provide more nuanced feedback—not just for automatically graded activities, but for those that require students to express their ideas in their own words.

🔍 Detailed Attempt Views

To support deeper analysis of student responses and more informed instruction, we’ve also introduced attempt-level feedback. Instructors and students are now able to click the score for any graded H5P activities to see more details about each individual attempt. They can now see:

    • The score of each attempt
    • Attempted timing
    • The original H5P activity next to the response data, offering additional context for both instructors and students reviewing results

Instructors can view this information for all students; students can only see their own results.

For the following commonly-used activities, users can now see specific details of each attempt and whether a student’s responses were correct or incorrect during each attempt:

    • Multiple Choice / Multiple Select
    • True/False
    • Essay
    • Fill in the Blanks
    • Drag the Words
    • Drag & Drop

Instructors can view both student responses and correct answers. Students, however, will not see correct answers for any questions they answered incorrectly—helping preserve the integrity of formative assessments and self-checks.

📊 Enhanced Usage Reporting for Network Managers

We’ve expanded the LTI & Results Usage page for network and institutional managers, making it easier to understand how Pressbooks Results is being used across your network. This includes:

    • Which courses are using Pressbooks Results
    • Which books are being used
    • Which instructors are using the feature
    • The number of students engaged with Pressbooks Results

This information is dynamically filtered based on the date range selected, making it easy to generate custom reports or investigate specific usage trends.

Additionally, the page now includes a summary table that aggregates usage statistics by LTI platform. This makes it easier for network managers to see which LMSes or partner institutions are making the most active use of Pressbooks Results across a multi-institution network.
