Collection: Diversity and Inclusion

To support success for all learners, it is important to consider diverse perspectives and make sure diverse voices are represented in both the content and the process of creating learning materials. This collection includes examples of textbooks that intentionally represent inclusive examples, role models, lived experiences, research, and academic scholarship.

Authors have been creative and thoughtful about how to demonstrate cultural relevance and create a sense of belonging for marginalized and historically under-represented groups. Some of these texts also do a great job “localizing” content to fit the unique needs of their communities and student populations.

Empower important perspectives

When learning materials incorporate diverse experiences, they become more relatable and effective at supporting learning for students from diverse backgrounds. They also do better at preparing people to function successfully in diverse workplaces. A notable strength in the Pressbooks community are the many texts that adapt medical instruction for serving marginalized communities.

The Diversity & Inclusion Collection also highlights different ways to bring diverse voices into the content creation process itself. The collection includes remarkable examples of student-led publishing projects,  cross-organization collaborations, storytelling, and other initiatives.
