release notes for the Pressbooks Accessibility Authoring Tool

Special Release: Pressbooks Accessibility Authoring Tool

Announcing the Pressbooks Accessibility Authoring Tool (Free Preview through November 5th, 2025)

We’re excited to introduce the Pressbooks Accessibility Authoring Tool, powered by Editoria11y — now available through a limited-time free trial for all Enterprise clients. This tool helps authors identify accessibility issues in their books and receive actionable guidance on how to fix them.

See how it works

During this free preview period (available until November 5th, 2025), any Pressbooks Enterprise client can activate the Accessibility Authoring Tool to:

  • Review Pressbooks content for common accessibility issues
  • Get real-time alerts about missing alt text, heading structure, and other accessibility issues in the content they are developing or editing
  • See detailed accessibility results and make improvements directly in the Pressbooks visual editor
  • Download accessibility reports for your records

This preview is your opportunity to try the Accessibility Authoring Tool at no cost, provide feedback, and help refine how this solution works for you and your creators.

How to get started: Network managers should email premiumsupport@pressbooks.com or your account manager and let them know that you’re interested in activating the free trial of the Pressbooks Accessibility Authoring Tool.

Affordable add-on tool pricing: On November 5th, 2025, the free preview will end. To continue using the Accessibility Authoring Tool after that date, networks will need to opt in. Aiming to make this feature as affordable as possible, pricing covers all users ($299/year for single-institution networks; $499/year for shared networks). For convenience, we will pro-rate the cost for the remainder of the current year and add it to your next renewal (to avoid mid-year budget asks).

Why is this an add-on feature? To provide frequently-requested accessibility checker functionality, Pressbooks incurs ongoing costs to maintain and support this feature. By offering it for an add-on fee, clients may choose whether to make it available with a network-level opt-in.

Providing feedback: As you or your users try out the Accessibility Authoring Tool, we welcome your feedback on how it works and suggestions for improvement. Look out for user surveys or other user research opportunities, or send your feedback to premiumsupport@pressbooks.com.
