It’s time for us to lift the curtain on some major changes here at Pressbooks! We’ve spent a lot of time over the last month doing some much-needed maintenance across the platform, including theme improvements and changes to the user experience for institutions using single-sign on technology. These past weeks also included important work on
As most of you know, we’re a small team at Pressbooks. So we’re thrilled to announce that our small team is finally getting a little bigger. Please welcome Daniel Fernandes, JC Guan, and Phil Nelson.
Daniel Fernandes is working on converting our 20 themes to be more user-friendly, standardizing the CSS and adding the new theme options from Clarke and Asimov to all of our themes.
Daniel is a recent recipient of a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of Manitoba’s School of Art. After moving to Montreal from Winnipeg in 2016, he became interested in web development and hopes to further explore the intersections between art, design, and code.
Starting March 19, JC Guan will be our new product manager, streamlining our development process and helping us better handle feature requests.
JC started her career as a lawyer, but quickly found her true calling in web UX, analytics, user research, and product development. She previously worked in communications and marketing for a network of law libraries, and holds a Bachelor of Laws from the University of Montreal and a Diploma in Management from McGill University.
As Pressbooks’ managed hosting continues to grow in quality and popularity, Phil Nelson is coming onboard to further automate infrastructure processes and handle system administration duties. This will free up developers Ned Zimmerman and Dac Chartrand to focus more on new features and polish for the core Pressbooks software.
Phil is an active contributor to open source software for infrastructure automation and provides related consulting services to Pressbooks. His technical consulting experience is a continuation of a past life in quantitative research and publication, involving a Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology.
A warm welcome to our new team members Daniel, JC and Phil!
